BoxCount Planner FAQ
Clear answers about the calculator, its moving-supply estimates, and how to turn a range into a practical packing plan.
About your estimate
How accurate are the estimates?
The ranges are planning guidance based on the space, household details, and packing factors you enter. They are not a guarantee of the exact number of supplies you will use; your belongings and packing style can change the final count.
What is the two-bedroom baseline?
The quick estimate starts with a two-bedroom, 1,200 sq ft house with two people and average belongings. Home-size planning ranges are adjusted for your inputs; optional inventory details refine storage, specialty packing and the share of the household you are moving.
Why does the estimate show a range?
A range leaves room for differences in how full a home is and how tightly items are packed. Use the lower end for a lighter load and the higher end when you have more belongings or want extra packing room.
Using the calculator
Which inputs affect the result?
Home size, home type, approximate square footage, number of people, belongings level, wardrobe clothing, selected special items, and moving distance all help shape the list.
How are belongings, books, fragile items, and wardrobe clothing handled?
Belongings level changes the general box need. Books and fragile items have their own levels so the estimate can account for different box and protective-material needs. Wardrobe clothing helps indicate how many wardrobe boxes may be useful.
Does distance change the estimate?
Yes. Choose the closest distance category. Longer moves can call for more protective packing material, so the estimate applies a distance adjustment rather than treating every move the same.
What happens if I enter an invalid or blank value?
Enter an area from 100 to 10,000 sq ft. Decimals such as 1200.5 are accepted without changing their value. Empty, malformed or out-of-range entries show a message instead of silently using another area.
Can I adjust the estimate after calculating?
Yes. Change your details and calculate again. Pending changes disable checklist printing. Your available supplies are retained as quantities, so a larger need shows what is still missing; edited planned quantities reset to the new suggestions.
Packing and checklist guidance
Can I print my checklist?
Yes. Use Print Checklist after calculating to open the browser's print flow with a simplified supplies list and checklist.
What are a few practical packing tips?
Pack heavier items in smaller boxes, cushion fragile items with enough protective material, label each box by room, and keep essentials separate for the first day. The Packing Tips page has more guidance.
Does BoxCount Planner store my information or require an account?
No account is required to use the calculator. The app does not ask you to create a profile to calculate or print your list; avoid entering information you do not want processed in your browser session.
Access and limitations
Does it work on mobile and with a keyboard?
The calculator is designed to reflow at narrow widths. Form controls, navigation, FAQ disclosures, and actions use standard keyboard-accessible elements.
What are the calculator's limitations?
The estimate cannot see your actual inventory, box sizes available at a particular store, unusual possessions, packing help, or building access. Treat it as a starting plan and refine it with your own inventory.
